On February 25, 2025 was held at the headquarters of the Institute of International Economics of the University of Valencia (UV) the III Workshop of the Valenciaport Chair of Port Economics, born as a collaboration of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) and the UV.

Under the title "Supply chains and ports in the new global scenario: challenges and opportunities", the conference evaluated the challenges and options posed by the new and changing international context and its implications for international trade and ports.

The presentation of the conference was made by the Vice Chancellor of Innovation and Transfer of the UV, Ms. Rosa Maria Donat and the Head of Innovation of the APV, Mr. Juan Manuel Diaz, who highlighted both the relevance of the issues to be addressed during the conference and the fruitful collaboration between the two institutions that has allowed to develop the establishment of the Chair three years ago.

Under the moderation of the Director of the Chair, Mr. Vicente J. Pallardó, three speakers of recognized prestige developed their presentations during the conference. First, Mr. Javier Ordóñez, Professor of Economics at the University Jaume I, characterized the current international economic scenario and presented a precise analysis of some of the major challenges that affect it, in areas such as demographics, energy, environment or production.

Next, Mr. Rafael Doménech, Professor of Economic Analysis at the UV and Director of Economic Analysis at BBVA Research, showed the recent behavior and future forecasts for key macroeconomic variables of the United States, the European Union and China, and presented estimates of the impact, globally and differentiated by country, of a 10% linear increase in tariffs by the United States on all its trading partners, assuming the absence of further protectionist movements.

Finally, Mr. Jan Hoffmann, Global Maritime Transport and Ports Leader of the World Bank, presented some of the long-term trends affecting the global maritime sector, analyzing the breakdown of these trends as a result of the shocks that have occurred in recent years and the future prospects in this regard, and analyzed the changes in global supply chains and the future challenges for ports, with special emphasis on those arising from the energy transformation of the sector in response to climate change.

After a lively debate between the audience and the three speakers, the conference ended.
