Professor Begoña Giner, Professor of Financial Economics and Accounting at the Department of Accounting and member of the Institute of International Economics (IEI) of the University of Valencia, has been appointed, at the proposal of the European Commission (EC), as a member of the Board of the Public Interest Oversight Board (PIOB). This body oversees the public interest through independent oversight of international auditing, assurance and ethics standards. PIOB is a global body composed of ten members with different profiles and from different geographical areas. Dr. Giner's appointment is for a three-year term.

Professor Giner has an extensive international background. She has been a member of the Technical Expert Group of the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG TEG) and of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Council. She has recently been part of the Project Task Force in charge of preparing the work for the development of possible EU non-financial reporting standards, a task entrusted to the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) by the European Commission (EC).

From a more academic perspective, Dr. Giner has been President of the European Accounting Association (EAA), and is currently the Coordinator of the EAA Stakeholder Reporting Committee.
