Professor Giner is one of the 20 members of the new Council developing sustainability disclosure standards for the European Union, which are to be applied by large and listed companies (except micro companies).
The European Commission's decision to establish standards for the disclosure of sustainability information is framed within the European Green Pact and is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The proposal for a Directive issued in April 2021 recognizes that the lack of information is an obstacle to ensuring that companies' activities are sustainable, and makes it difficult to channel financing to them. According to the proposal, the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) will develop sustainability standards, including environmental, social and corporate governance aspects, which will eventually be accepted by the Commission.
In order to undertake this new mission, EFRAG has incorporated a new Board, the Sustainability Reporting Board, into its organizational structure. This Board includes the participation of various stakeholders, including the European Accounting Association, which is represented by Professor Giner.
